Can You Robot-Proof Yourself: Staying Relevant in the Age of Artificial Intelligence

As if life wasn’t stressful enough with a global pandemic that keeps going on, you have to worry about artificial intelligence (AI) taking over your job. AI is disrupting every industry. And it’s very difficult to escape its effects. But a question that’s worth asking is “Can you robot-proof yourself?” Thinking about this question, transported me back to an event I attended at the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto, in 2014.

Marty Neumeier delivered his presentation on the Rules of Genius, which is based on his book, The 46 Rules of Genius: An Innovator’s Guide to Creativity. Over seven years later, I remember several parts of the presentation. I think for now, you can robot-proof yourself, based on some critical advice Neumeier dispensed during his lecture.

Let’s also take a look at some statistics. And these were before the pandemic. McKinsey Global Institute released the report, The future of women at work: Transitions in the age of automation. Artificial intelligence technologies will have a devastating impact on women. Many of these women will have to up-skill if they want to take home a salary.
