How to Read in the Age of Distraction
We are living in the age of distraction. With so many things vying for our attention — smartphones, social media, email, work — it can be difficult to get the most from reading. The key to getting the most from reading is to make it a habit. And you need to make it a priority in your life. Another key is to find a type of reading that interests you. If you’re not interested in what you’re reading, you won’t retain as much information. It’s also important to choose a type of reading that you can get comfortable with.
If your favorite genre is poetry, you can read poetry all day long and get the same amount of enjoyment out of it. But if you’re not a big fan of poetry, it might be more challenging to find something that you enjoy. For some people, reading is a form of escape, a way to leave the mundane world behind and explore new and fantastical realms.
